Jorge Kahwagi Gastine
Since 2014, Kahwagi Gastine serves as General Director and President of the newspaper La Crónica de Hoy. Kahwagi Gastine is a known businessman with strong public relations. He is the father-in-law of Miguel Marón Manzur, who was the Undersecretary at the Mexican Secretariat of Economy. His son, Jorge Kahwagi Macari, was the Secretary of the extinct political party Partido Nueva Alianza (2007- 2011) and Federal Representative for the political party Partido Verde (2003-2006).
It has been known that Kahwagi Gastine had an emotional relationship with Elba Esther Gordillo, which was the most powerful political leader in Mexico due to her leading role at the National Union for Education Workers, the biggest trade union in Latin America with more than 1,7 million members. Gordillo was the founder of the political party Nueva Alianza. In 2013 she was arrested on charges of organized crime and money laundering; after five years in prison, in 2018, the justice decided to absolve her, which triggered a lot of critics.
Kahwagi Gastine is President of the real estate company Layla; President of the Golf Club Tequisquiapan; President of Promotora Hacienda Grande de Tequisquiapan; former President of the Mexican Golf Federation; President of the Mexican Institute for small and medium industry; member of the Governing Board of Center for Investigation and Advanced Studies of IPN, and member of the Managing Board of Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica (National School for Technical Education).
