Excélsior
After El Universal, Excélsior is the second oldest newspaper in Mexico City. His first edition was published on the 18th of March 1917 and at the beginning its focus were the international news. In the 1970s, the harsh critique of the newspaper towards the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party) government of Luis Echeverría resulted with the expulsion of the daily's director - Julio Scherer, who afterwards participated in the foundation of Proceso magazine. In 2006, after being 89 years in circulation, Excélsior was relaunched and purchased by Grupo Empresarial Ángeles.
