Grupo Multimedios

The conglomerate Grupo Multimedios started in 1933 with one radio station in the city of Monterrey. Today this company, is one of the most important information producers in the north of the country, with printed press, TV channels, radio stations and one Internet provider. Thanks to collaborations with US radio stations, the TV signal of Multimedios reaches cities with large Spanish-speaking population such as San Diego, Houston, El paso and Salt Lake City. Multimedios also transmits in Central America. Grupo Multimedios is made of two groups, Multimedios and Milenio. The first one holds concessions for open-TV channels in Mexico City and in other ten states of the Republic. At the same time it owns five networks of radio broadcasters which reach a total of 37 stations in 17 cities.
On the other hand, Milenio, besides producing contents for television, radio and online, it is also the owner of the national daily “Milenio Diario” and its eight local editions.
The conglomerate Multimedios has imprecise number of limited companies, with HQ in Mexico City and the city of Monterrey. The Group does not publish information related to its finance or income, except for some communication notes about some investments. On the other hand, the information about the shareholder structure of the radio and TV concessionaires of the Group, published by the Federal Institute for Telecommunications, has many gaps.
In December 2017, Grupo Multimedios paid the State around 647 millions of Mexican pesos, through the companies Multimedios Televisión S.A de C.V. and Televisión Digital S.A de C.V., in the name of concession in duration of 20 years. The Group purchased the concession for six new open-TV channels in different cities in five Mexican states and in Mexico City.
One year before, in 2016, the company Milenio Diario S.A. de C.V. was among the 10 providers which received 63% of the anual budget expenditure for government publicity. Milenio Diario received 5% of all the payments made to the 483 providers, which means it received more than 77 millions of Mexican pesos for government publicity, according to one report from Fundar, Mexican Center for Analysis and Investigation.
Grupo Multimedios –then called Multimedios Estrella de Oro¬ started publishing the newspaper Telediario since 1975 in the city of Monterrey, State of Nuevo León. Almost half a century later, the newsletters' information is being transmitted on open-TV in at least five of the most populated cities in the country, and on the Group's radio stations.
The transmissions of the pay-TV network Milenio Televisión started in 2008; later on its content was transmitted in different cities of the country as open-TV.
The President of Grupo Multimedios and President of the Managing Board of Grupo Milenio, Francisco Antonio González Sánchez, is the major individual shareholder in the companies of Multimedios which hold the radio and television concessions. The rest of the individual shareholders in these companies are his four children: Francisco Darío, Jesús Dionisio, Patricia and Valeria González Albuerne, as well as their mother Nora Patricia Albuerne Wendorf.
